Australia has enacted a law giving workers the right to ignore after-hours demands from their bosses without repercussions, effective August 26.
Kevin O'Leary, a businessman and Shark Tank star, criticized the law, stating he would fire employees who do not respond to work communications during off-hours.
The law allows exceptions for emergencies and takes into account the seniority of the employee.
Companies that breach the rules could face civil fines up to $19,800.
Australia's minister for employment and workplace relations, Murray Watt, stated that the law aims to restore work-life balance and prevent unpaid overtime.
