Elon Musk, an American billionaire, expressed support for the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, calling it the 'saviour' of Germany.

The AfD is known for its pro-Russian and anti-Ukrainian views and ranks second in opinion polls ahead of Germany's early elections on 23 February.

Germany's main centrist parties have vowed to avoid cooperation with the AfD at the national level.

The German government acknowledged Musk's post but declined to comment further.

The AfD has named Alice Weidel as its candidate for chancellor in the upcoming elections.
